Who is Shannon Foxley?
Please use this website to help you navigate all things related to counseling and social emotional learning for the daVinci Middl School Community.
I will update pages weekly - especially during the covid-19 school closures.
A little about Ms. Foxley: I have been a school counselor since 2004, when I graduated with a Masters in Counselor Education from Portland State University. In my career I have been a middle school counselor, high school counselor, a K-8 counselor with PPS, an elementary school counselor for 4 years in Gresham. I am SO EXCITED to be working with middle school students again.
I was born in California but was raised for the duration of my school life in Ashland Oregon.
I moved to Portland in 1988 to attend Lewis and Clark College and loved Portland so much I never left! When I'm not at school you can find me taking care of my 2 beautiful sons, working on my never ending yard, knitting a sweater, or my new passion hot yoga. I am also a self defense instructor and have my 3rd degree black belt in an Indonesian Kung Fu.
I am so lucky to be a school counselor and delighted to work with your students.
During distance learning my office hours are:

Some of the services I offer, but not limited to:
Small Group Guidance provides a supportive environment for students experiencing commonly shared concerns such as stress, grief, divorce, anger, organization, friendship, etc. These groups are offered to all students. Please contact me if you would like your child to participate in a small group. Small groups give students the opportunity to share ideas and support one another. Kids can see they are not the only ones feeling a certain way or going through a certain situation. Small groups are conducted based on the needs of our students. They typically run 8-10 weeks and the group meets once a week for 30-45 minutes. Parent permission is needed. I also provide less formal groups during lunchtime that have an open invitation. Students may be invited by a friend, as an entire class or a small group. Lunch groups are fun in nature and relationship building.
Individual support is available to all students at the request of teachers, parents, or students. I am a resource to help students succeed in school. Individual support within the school setting is short-term. If your child tells you he/she met with me, please don't be alarmed. Sometimes students self-refer and visit with me once or twice, and are able to solve their own problem. If students come to my office more than twice or it is of a serious nature parents are contacted. I feel fortunate to be able to spend time listening to students while providing a safe setting to help them work through problems or tough days. I feel as though I am another safe friend at Rigler who is available to help students academically and emotionally. If a parent prefers that I do not meet with his/her child individually or in a group, please let me know and I will accommodate the request.
