It was really fun to see all the lovely students arrive excited about the new school year, dressed up and a little nervous about who their new teacher is.
I will be in classes this week. I will be teaching who is the counselor and going over basic classroom expectations and when to see the counselor.
K-2 students will be reading a book called "Mrs Joyce Gives the Best High Fives" - it is a book written specifically to introduce a school counselor to the students. After we read the book we will talk about what I do, and how to come see me if needed. They will also create and decorate name plates for their desk to support the new counselor in getting to know student's names.
3-5 students will be doing a similar lesson - but without the book. Here is a link to the lesson if you want to take a look at it: http://mrsbell-the-crafty-counselor.blogspot.com/2016/08/quick-school-counselor-intro-superpowers.html. It's a great lesson that helps students identify what exactly I do here, how they can see me if needed, and some fun activities that help them reintegrate what I'm teaching them. We will also make name plates to help with new counselor knowing your child's name.
I hope this year is amazing and lovely for each of you. I will leave a good-bye message when we know what my last day will be.
